This became my house on 6 September 2008. I was at a lawyer’s office, signed a ton of documents, agreed to pay a large sum of money for many years into the future, and then was handed a key to my new house.
A lot has happened over the last five years to me and to this little house.
I changed jobs, lost friends, gained friends, my dog died, I rescued my current dog, there have been parties at this house, I laughed in this house, and I cried in this house.
I had all the carpet torn out of the house and replaced it with wood floors (it’s more dog friendly). I had a deck built and put a shed in the back yard. I painted the walls and had them repainted, because I am lousy painter. I even tiled the bathroom floor with pennies. Appliances, the central unit, sewer pipes, and all sorts of other things have broken and lots of repairs have been made. The furniture and the closets have been rearranged multiple times.
While all these things were going on, something else happened. It didn’t happen on a particular day. There was no ceremony or event to mark the occasion. I can’t really say why or how it happened. When I bought this place it was my house, but now it’s my home.
